Our strategy for municipal waste management is based on a Clustered Approach

Cluster approach/solution

With the involvement of international legal and consulting companies, we have developed a comprehensive algorithm for the organizational, legal, technical, and financial model for implementing the Cluster approach.

The Cluster approach involves:

An organizational and technological model for locating waste processing plants by increasing recycling capacities in regions.
Complete utilization/recycling of all organic and inorganic components of municipal solid waste (MSW).
Each Cluster must utilize 100% of newly generated MSW at its location (the approach focuses on addressing the systemic issue of MSW utilization in specific regions and the country as a whole. The primary goal is the complete (100%) utilization of MSW in large cities, small towns, and villages).
Minimal landfill disposal, limited only to inert organic waste

Innovative Cluster-Based Approach to Waste Management

One cluster serves up to 1.5 million residents and processes up to 500,000 tons of municipal solid waste annually

Each cluster includes between 2 to 9 modern waste processing plants

Construction is financed without involvement from local communities, regions, or the government

The approximate cost of creating one cluster is €130–160 million, with CAPEX of up to €350 per ton

Innovative Waste Management Solution: Ukrainian Module (Um)

The Ukrainian Module (Um) represents advanced waste processing plants designed for maximum efficiency and sustainability. These modules are tailored for different scales of waste processing:

Waste recycling plant

Um 1: 35,000–180,000 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) per year with electricity generation using gas-piston units.

Waste recycling plant

Um 2: 120,000–360,000 tons of MSW per year with energy generation through thermal power plants (TPP) or gas-piston units.

Um 1: Comprehensive Waste Processing Model

Designed for towns and communities with a population of up to 100,000 people (35,000 tons of MSW per year) and a coverage radius of up to 70 km, the Um 1 module delivers:

Waste Reception and Deep Sorting.
Metal and Glass Recovery.
Metal and glass are sorted and sent for reuse.
RDF/SRF Fuel Production.
Plastics, textiles, wood, and other materials are processed into RDF/SRF fuel for use in gasification reactors.
Organic Waste Processing.
Organic waste is dried, shredded, and briquetted for co-utilization with RDF/SRF in gasification reactors.
Energy Generation.
Electrical and thermal energy is produced by gas-piston synthesis gas plants and supplied to consumers or to the power grid.
PET Plastic Recycling.
White and colored PET plastics are transported to the central cluster for granule production.
Renewable Energy Integration.
Solar panels are installed on industrial building rooftops, with energy storage systems for optimized use.

Um 2: Advanced Waste Processing System

Designed for larger cities and regions with a population of up to 1,000,000 people (120,000–360,000 tons of MSW per year) and a coverage radius of up to 80 km, the Um 2 module offers:

Waste Reception and Deep Sorting
Comprehensive sorting to separate and recover valuable materials.
Metal and Glass Recovery.
Metal and glass are extracted and sent for reuse or recycling.
RDF/SRF Fuel Production.
Residual plastics, paper, textiles, and wood are processed into RDF/SRF fuel for utilization in gasification reactors.
Organic Waste Processing.
Organic waste is dried, shredded, and briquetted for co-utilization with RDF/SRF in gasification reactors.
Energy Generation.
Thermal and electrical energy is produced using thermal power plants (TPPs) or gas-piston engines operating on synthesis gas, supplied to external consumers or integrated into the grid.
PET Plastic Recycling.
Sorted white and colored PET plastics are transported to the cluster’s main plant for granule production.
Renewable Energy Integration.
Solar panels are installed on rooftops, accompanied by energy storage systems to maximize renewable energy utilization.
Centralized Recycling Hub
The main Um 2/1 plant processes sorted PET plastic from all cluster facilities into commercial-grade granules for distribution.

Kyiv Cluster Plants

The Kyiv Cluster includes two state-of-the-art waste processing facilities, strategically designed to handle municipal solid waste (MSW) and generate renewable energy. Construction is set to begin in September 2025, aiming for completion within 27 months.
